“We are thrilled that HPPI’s inaugural Garden Tour is taking place this December ! Tampa Bay’s Morning Blend is an original, local lifestyle show focused on providing our audience with informative, useful and entertaining content. It features a variety of community organizations, businesses and happenings in the Bay area. It is a marketing-friendly program dedicated to offering businesses the opportunity to showcase their company/products, reach potential customers and gain results.

You can find this style of home at 305 Hyde Park Avenue which is the Taliaferro House that was built in 1890. Also during this time there was a brick façade on a structure wrapped in aluminum siding or vinyl siding. The layout is a rectangular, 2-story American four square. The inspiration for these homes came from the Americans declaring independence, therefore, there is a mixture of late century designs.

You can find a number of these homes in Hyde Park at “Bungalow Terrace” which is a bungalow court of only Craftsman style bungalows. Just walking distance from the village is Bayshore Boulevard which is a gorgeous waterfront road on Hillsborough Bay. You can begin and end your day with a stroll, bike ride or run on one of Tampa’s signature roads.

The Home Tour is the major fundraiser for our neighborhood and has helped to fund many major preservation, beautification, and maintenance projects in our community. Hillsborough County also offers a variety of magnet school options. Magnet schools each have a curriculum focus, such as engineering, performing arts and International Baccalaureate, just to name a few.

The inspiration for this home can be found in homes built in the Alps and Orient. The design of this home is noted for its simplicity and harmony. Numerous windows, exposed beams and rafters, and wide eaves are some of the architectural features. Built-in furnishings such as bookcases and shelves can also be found in a Craftsman home. The background inspiration for this design stems from mid-class philosophies, supported by a democratic style of living. Outdoor porches and suburban living are also notable inspirations.

This design was a movement away from the revivalist movement, independent of the historical trends in order to move toward a new American architecture versus European architecture. The idea was to make the home seem like it “naturally grew there”. Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the noted architects of this design and called it “organic architecture”. The Prairie School was developed by John Ruskin and William Morris and provided an alternative to classical revival influences.

It is very important to know about the boundary areas of these schools. Just because you can walk across the street and be right at the school (and yes wouldn’t that be easy?) it doesn’t mean that will be your attendance area school. Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Middle and Plant High, are the three main schools you will either see or hear people talk about in Hyde Park. Each year there is a free, family friendly event to light the Enchanted Tree in Hyde Park. The free event includes live music, photos with Santa, food and beer Trucks, a kids zone and much more!
Now, Hyde Park is not only a desirable neighborhood to live in, but it’s also home to Hyde Park Village, a collection of upscale boutiques, cafes and restaurants located among the residential streets. Hyde Park Village is becoming a destination unto itself, with a calendar of events that range from the monthly fresh market to painting classes at one of the shops and a weekly running club. SoHo contains some of the area’s most popular bars and nightclubs, with patrons being shuttled between core districts like Hyde Park, Downtown and Ybor City in electric vehicles called NEVS . Relax and read a book on one of the park’s many benches. This year’s tour features a walking tour of historic Dobyville – Tampa’s historic Black community at the turn of the 20th century. Though much has been lost to development, a significant portions remains and we are working to protect and preserve it. The tour will be led by Rodney Kite-Powell, author and curator at the Tampa Bay History Center.

The Gardens & Grounds of Old Hyde Park Tour continues a long series of successful home and kitchen tours that have invited the community into one of Tampa’s most charming and historic neighborhoods over the years. Tour-goers can stroll the tree covered streets past beautiful homes, just off of Bayshore Boulevard and experience some of the community’s most scenic and luxurious gardens. The annual Old Hyde Park Home Tour provides visitors just that opportunity from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $20 advance; $25 at the start of the route, the corner of Morrison and Oregon avenues. Tour-goers will see modern additions such as outdoor kitchens, man caves and garages turned into guest houses.
